Not enough feeder cattle last week for an adequate market comparison. However, a higher undertone on calves and feeder cattle was noted. Slaughter cows sold steady to 4.00 lower and bulls unevenly steady. Bulk of the receipts came from the annual Labor Day special sale at Torrington Livestock. The largest head count in the last 5 yrs tromped through the ring. Larger than normal receipts came from cattlemen incurring the drought conditions of 2020. Some ranchers have had zero rain since March and fresh water supplies on the range is getting limited in some areas forcing early marketing of calves and some yearlings. Mother Nature through a curve ball on Tuesday with light to heavy snow and temps in the high 20's across the region. Crop damage is not known at press time but most are hoping limited damage was done to the forages still waiting harvest.
