Compared to last week: Steer and heifer calves 8.00 to 15.00 higher. Yearling feeder steers 2.00 to 8.00 higher, except over 1100 lbs 14.00 to 15.00 higher. Yearling feeder heifers unevenly steady. Very good demand for steer and heifer calves as there is more optimism amongst cattle feeders for the market. Strong market fundamentals helped to build a fire under the feeder cattle market this week. Cattle futures contracts have followed suit. Most auction locations will not host a feeder cattle auction over the two holiday weeks, which also added support to the feeder market. A friendly Cattle On Feed report confirmed what everyone in the cattle business already knew, historically low cattle numbers.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
