Compared to last week: Feeder steers 3.00 to 8.00 higher, heifers 2.00 to 4.00 lower except 800-900 lbs 5.00 to 7.00 higher. Good to very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers, demand improved at late week as sales of fat cattle started to be reported up to 214.00. Lower cattle futures for almost the entire week, in spite of record high fat cattle prices, but buyers for the most part ignored the futures as it fails to follow the cash markets. The bullish market fundamentals still exist, and cattle feeders are focused on that and willing to compete heavily to buy the cattle they need to fill their pens. Large auction receipts in many barns as the high feeder cattle market is bringing cattle to market. Drought conditions are worrisome to cattle producers as it has been a very dry and windy winter. But there are still plenty of buyers for light cattle and replacement heifers.
