Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of yearling cattle as optimism amongst cattle feeders continues to grow. There were some long strings of yearlings offered and there were lots of buyers who want to get these cattle bought while they have the chance. The cash fed cattle market continues to hold together much better than what was feared earlier, daily slaughter totals nearing 120,000 which again is better than what any of the analyst were calling for. Feed costs are low which is helping to push demand for yearlings. Auction runs remain sporadic and the market is very active. It is very difficult to get cattle bought that have breakeven prices that are aligned with where the CME Live Cattle contracts are predicting they will be at. Slaughter cows and bulls traded 5.00 to 8.00 higher as packers scrambled to get some inventory around them.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
