Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers 5.00 to 10.00 higher, instances of 12.00 to 13.00 higher on heifers 700-750 lbs. Demand improved this week for feeder cattle, especially as the week progressed. As the futures contracts fell by the daily limit on Monday gains were made each day after. The board reacted on Monday to the announcement of beef plant closures or kill reductions but then seemed to find firm ground and make gains. Cash fed cattle slipped lower again with live sales of 95.00-97.00 materializing. In spite of fed cattle trading lower again the feeder market was rather active. Receipts were reduced across the state again this week as the producers who are able to delay their marketings are doing so. Slaughter cow market was very active as packers scrambled to get cows bought to meet the rising demand for ground beef. Of important note this week, packers were able to sell 90% lean ground beef 5.00 to 10.00 higher than they could get for Choice boxed beef cuts. Slaughter cows 8.00 to 13.00 higher, bulls too lightly tested for comparison.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
