Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 700 lbs 2.00 to 7.00 higher, 700-750 lbs steady to 2.00 lower, over 750 lbs steady to 3.00 higher. Feeder heifers under 700 lbs 2.00 to 4.00 higher, over 700 lbs steady to 1.00 higher. Good to very good demand this week, best demand was centered on those lighter weight cattle that can either be backgrounded or finished. Many cattle offered for sale in East River auctions as this is the height of the winter marketing season. Lower cattle futures this week and with packers resisting paying more for fed cattle, cattle feeders are being careful not to chase the feeder market and get stuck with cattle that don't have a realistic breakeven price. Flesh condition was attractive on the light cattle as most of these offerings are hay fed and green, moderate to moderate plus on the heavier cattle that are being fed a higher energy ration. Slaughter cows were lower, Breakers and Boners steady to 1.00 lower while Lean cows were 6.00 lower. Bulls 2.00 to 3.00 lower.
