No recent price comparisons available as last week was very limited. Very good demand for steers and heifers under 800 lbs, demand not quite as robust for the heavier weight cattle. After the large snow storm that moved across the area at the end of the calendar year that dumped 1-2 feet of snow, some areas had over an inch of rain that accompanied the snow, pen conditions of feed yards became a major concern. The ground is full of moisture already and cattle get dirty as soon as the temps warm. After the muddy conditions last spring that caused cattle performance to suffer greatly cattle feeders are very wary of buying cattle that could have a much higher cost of gain due to mud that will appear again when winter ends. Very large auction receipts this week as feeder cattle producers East River begin their feeder cattle marketing as they normally do. No recent price comparison available for slaughter cows and bulls.
