Compared to last week: Yearling feeder steers and heifers unevenly steady. Steer and heifer calves 3.00 to 8.00 lower. Good demand remains for yearlings, especially as the supply becomes more limited and the cash fed cattle market stabilized and rose higher. Demand for calves light to moderate at best. Farmer feeders haven't begun their corn harvest as the corn is still too wet and are now working as they can when the weather allows them to combine beans. Many cattle feeders usually don't have much interest in buying calves until they have their grain harvest complete as they don't have the time necessary to check and doctor bawling calves. Persistent rains have yard conditions wet and muddy which is also causing cattle feeders to wait on buying calves. The warm, drying weather of this past week was replaced with more rain and then an early winter storm bringing large amounts of snow which caused consignments of calves to cancel and auctions to reschedule. Much larger auction receipts expected next week. Slaughter cows steady, bulls steady to weak.
