Compared to last week: Feeder steers 3.00 to 5.00 higher with instances to 10.00 higher on 800-900 lbs. Feeder heifers steady to 3.00 higher. Good demand for light fleshed yearling steers and heifers as there were some long strings of these cattle offered. Demand much more moderate for heavier fleshed yearlings. Cattle feeders in the northern plains held firm to their asking prices after last week's run-up in the fed cattle market. As the cash market has firmed up cattle feeders have a renewed sense of optimism and are willing to chase the feeder cattle market further than they were apt to two weeks ago. Costs of gain are higher than last year and a weaker Live Cattle futures complex have all been working against the cattle feeder. But now packers are having to give more money to get cattle bought and the market has gotten higher which has done a great deal to somewhat ease the mind of cattle producers giving them some hope that the fed market isn't going to completely fall apart. Live Cattle futures refuse to follow the cash rally leaving a very wide basis. Slaughter cows fully 5.00 higher, bulls steady to firm.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the South Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
