Compared to last week steers and heifers less than 600 lb sold 10.00 lower on a thin test of the market. Steers from 600 to 800 lbs sold steady to 4.00 higher and over 800 lbs sold unevenly steady. Heifers over 600 lbs sold 2.00 to 8.00 lower except preg tested open heifers sold steady. Demand was moderate to good, instances very good on some yearling steers heading East to out-of-state feedlots. Demand was moderate to good for bred cattle. Big cooldown in temps after the Labor Day weekend with some morning lows in the 40's. Few areas might have had some frost in the low ground of the state. Brr. Too early for cold weather but it does feel like fall in the air. Silage choppers are getting into full swing of harvest and other crops will maturing and harvest around the corner for those feedlot commodities. Hay producers continue to struggle to get top quality hay produced in large areas. Area feedlots saw a little downward trend to the market as live sales sold 2.00 to 3.00 lower from 242.00 to 243.00 and dressed sales sold 2.00 lower at 383.00.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
