Compared to last week steers less than 600 lbs sold 8.00 to 9.00 higher, 600 to 800 lbs sold steady, over 800 lbs sold unevenly steady. Heifers less than 700 lbs sold 6.00 higher, 700 to 900 lbs sold 3.00 higher and over 900 lbs sold steady. Demand was good to very good. Some cattlemen that sold bred cows have switched gears and are procuring grass cattle to fill summer pastures. Overall, these cattle are less labor intense and give the older individuals some fulfillment in the cattle business without all the chores of keeping a cow around all year. Some livestock owners use the word "market toppers" and boy, have we seen that in the last few weeks as most weights of cattle continue to hit new highs in the feeder and slaughter market. Nebraska feedlots hit the 300.00 dressed market. The bulk of the dressed market was at 302.00 with some up to 306.00. Live sales traded at 190.00 with a few up to 191.00.
