Nebraska Weekly Livestock Auction Summary

Compared to last week, not enough light weight steer calves for a market comparison, yearling steers sold unevenly steady. Light weight heifer calves sold steady with 700 to 900 lbs selling 3.00 to 4.00 higher and over 900 lbs sold steady. Demand was good for all lots on offer. Some auctions reported good buyer participation from the internet. Bulk of the cattle came off of summer grass with some lots coming out of back grounding lots. More of the state is getting in drought conditions per the US drought monitor. Some areas in the SW are in the moderate drought stage. Pastures and dry land crops are really taking its toll as of this writing. On a plus some of the excess water in the native prairie grass meadows has reseeded back and is getting hayed this year. Many of these areas haven't been hayed in two years. Pivots and gravity irrigation is in full force with some corn starting to tassel across the state. Very hot weather in the weekend forecast with temps cooling back in the upper 80's next week.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
