Not enough comparable offerings from last week for an adequate market trend. However, a higher undertone was noted. Demand was good to very good for fall calves and yearling feeders off of summer grass. Bassett Livestock kicked off the summer BBQ special sales on Wednesday. Somewhat light crowd of buyers but they came with orders to buy top quality sandhills cattle. Most reporting auctions will hold a summer BBQ auction that features top quality yearlings and calves in load lots. Spotty rain showers across the state the this week has helped settle the dust in some regions. Majority of the farmers have pivots running non stop with the continued dry weather pattern. Grass hay producers in full swing of production. Some reports tonnage is a tick less than a normal year. It appears that the last frost in April did more damage to the plants growth than meets the eye. As it looked good but curbed the plant growth. On the flip side with the dry areas, standing water is going down and ranchers can mow more meadow acres than in the last two years so hopefully this will increase total tonnage.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
