Compared to last week, steers under 750 lbs sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher, over 750 lbs sold steady to 5.00 higher. Heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher. Demand was moderate to good for calves and feeder cattle and fall bred cows. Good demand for cow/calf pairs. Some of the baby calves had a spring vaccinations. Cooler than normal temperatures and a couple of freezes has kept early spring grass and alfalfa growing at a snails pace at best. Next weeks, temps are more seasonal and summer grass should grow in leaps and bounds. Especially, if a nice spring shower comes along. Feedlot sales sold sharply higher on the week with dressed sales 20.00 to 30.00 higher. Dressed sales sold from 170.00 to 180.00 and live sales sold 15.00 higher at 110.00. Per NASS, week ending May 10, Corn planted was 79 percent, well ahead of 43 last year, and ahead of 60 for the five-year average. Emerged was 30 percent, well ahead of 7 last year, and ahead of 18 average. Soybeans planted was 54 percent, well ahead of 18 last year and 23 average. Emerged was 6 percent, ahead of 1 both last year and average.
