Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold unevenly steady. Demand was moderate to good for calves and feeder cattle with very good demand for replacement type heifers. Wide variety of kind, condition and flesh this week. Buyers were not quite a picky as previous weeks when buying through the auction. Sharply higher gains most of the week on the CME cattle boards might have influenced the demand for cattle and not sort so many "odd" cattle off of packages an load lots. Feedlot trade has been interesting with a very wide price spread on dressed cattle. Dressed prices ranged from 145.00 to 180.00 and live sales at 95.00. Crop progress from NASS for week ending May 3, Corn planted was 61 percent, well ahead of 30 last year and 38 for the five-year average. Emerged was 9 percent, ahead of 1 last year, and near 5 average. Soybeans planted was 32 percent, well ahead of 11 last year and 10 average.
