Compared to last week, steer calves sold mostly steady, feeder steers sold steady to 3.00 higher. Heifer calves and feeder cattle sold unevenly steady. Demand was moderate for calves with good demand for yearling feeders. Also, demand for spayed heifers was good at reporting auctions. Some lots of calves had precondition shots. Abundance of rain this summer has kept summer grass washy and green and most lots of cattle have not packed on the pounds they normally would for almost the first of October. With market conditions lower than last year, pounds of product pays the producers and most lots of calves and yearlings have not met expected sale weights. Many producers sell cattle about the same time every year and some have noted especially on calves, their cattle are lighter than previous years. Feedlot sales picked up 3.00 on dressed sales on Thursday as some feedlots sold at 165.00. Silage choppers and wet corn grinders continue to pile large amounts of feed hoping it will be enough until next year at this time. Some of the bigger feedlots will not be putting up quite as much wet corn as they have added steam flaking mills to their operations. Some contacts stated early corn harvest moisture is running at 27-30 percent. (Dry corn usually at 15 %).

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Nebraska barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
