North Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 700 lbs unevenly steady, over 700 lbs 4.00 to 8.00 higher. Feeder heifers unevenly steady, except 600-750 lbs 10.00 to 12.00 higher. Good demand for this lighter offering of feeder cattle, fewer cattle in town at the auctions as the winter marketing season winds down. Lower cattle futures for much of the week, in spite of record high fat cattle prices a week ago and reports of 214.00 this week. Cattle feeders paid little attention to the failure of the futures contracts to not follow the cash market, and remained focused on the bullish market fundamentals. The grazing season will be here soon, which is keeping demand for those light cattle very high as yearling operators are very optimistic for the fall months in the feeder market. Drought is a concern across the state, yet there was some rain late week, but more will be needed to ensure an adequate start for the growing year.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
