Compared to last week: Feeder steers under 600 lbs unevenly steady, over 600 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for all weights of steers and heifers, but with the sharp rise in the CME Live and Feeder Cattle futures there was new life breathed into the finishing type cattle. The market for cattle suitable for backgrounding, whether on grass or in a grow yard, has been active all winter long and only getting more competitive as the supply of this class gets tighter. Cattle feeders have sold cattle at 210.00, writing, but many are passing those bids as the April Live Cattle futures reached up and touched 211.00 on Friday morning. The futures complex has finally awakened to the tight supplies of fed cattle, making the prospect for 200.00 plus fat cattle this summer look like a possibility, not just wishful thinking. Feeder cattle offerings continue to get lighter as cattle came earlier this year.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
