North Dakota Weekly Cattle Auction Summary

Receipts 9,296Last week 13,803Year ago 6,891

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers under 650 lbs unevenly steady, over 650 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 lower. Good demand for light steers and heifers to make yearlings out of, and for replacement quality heifers, demand moderated some on those cattle bound for finishing yards. As the CME Live and Feeder Cattle futures contracts have moved lower cattle feeders are having to re-evaluate their approach to buying feeder cattle. There is great competition amongst back grounders who need to buy light cattle, that keeps the market very active for that class of cattle. Cash fed cattle market not fully established yet as of this writing, but concern for feeder cattle being bought at current levels attaining profitable selling prices when finished is a concern.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the North Dakota barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
