Compared to last week: Only 1 reported auction to compare with the two this week, a good comparison cannot be made. Good demand remains for yearling steers and heifers, very few calves being offered in the auctions yet, too few to really test the market. The market is very active for yearlings as these cattle are highly desirable by cattle feeders, as they are off grass and their flesh is light which makes for quick and cheap gains in the feedyard. Cash fed cattle sales did not reach 110.00, where many asking prices were set, 107.00-108.00 so far for the week. Oct Live Cattle futures contract just shy of 110.00 did give some support to market, but cattle feeders are wary of getting stuck with cattle that don’t have a realistic breakeven price as the Feb contract still remains under 115.00.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
