Compared to last week: Yearling steers under 850 lbs sold fully steady, 850-949 lbs sols 1.00-3.00 lower steers over 950 lbs sold mostly 5.00

lower. Yearling heifers under 800 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed.

800-999 lbs heifers sold unevenly steady from 3.00 higher to 3.00 lower, heifers over 1000 lbs sold steady to 3.00 lower. Quality this week

was mixed from plain to attractive. Yearlings were offered in mostly small packages with a few load lots seen as well. Load lots sold on mostly

good demand while packages sold on mostly light to moderate demand. Yearlings continue to come off grass in very light flesh as dry

conditions continue to be seen across much of the state. Despite strong buyer attendance at both sales this week buyers showed lighter

demand for all yearlings as CME positions and finished cattle prices both had a disappointing week. As of yesterdays close CME contracts for

September, October and November traded at 137.60, 138.325, and 139.375 respectfully. Market activity this week was mostly slow to

moderate. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand for mostly moderate offerings. Packers showed lighter demand for all cows on

offer as they allowed feeding buyers to purchase most of the high quality cows this week. Slaughter cows sold mostly 1.00-3.00 lower.

Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-5.00 lower as lighter packer demand allowed cow prices to slide lower. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 2.00 lower.

Feeding bull buyers continue to buy bulls away from packers. Demand for feeding bulls was mostly moderate. Demand for re-breed type

cattle continues to be limited and most of these offerings sold as feeding cows again this week. Quality was average

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
