Compared to last report (8-14-20): Yearling steers under 750 lbs sold sharply lower, 750 and heavier sold mostly steady to 4.00 lower.

Yearling heifers under 750 lbs sold 1.00-3.00 higher, 750-850 lbs heifers sold mostly 2.00 higher. Heifers over 850 lbs sold 1.00-4.00 higher.

Demand for yearlings was mostly light to moderate. Quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive. Yearlings were offered in mostly

small to moderate size packages with no load lots seen this week. Cattle were in very light to light flesh as most were coming out of dry

country or country where grasshoppers destroyed much of the forage. Buyer attendance was strong at both sales this week. CME positions

have struggled after last Fridays release of the monthly cattle on feed report which showed stronger than anticipated placements. As of this

Thursday's settlement the August feeder cattle contract closed at 141.975, 2.975 lower than Thursday 2 weeks ago(8-13-20). Buyer

attendance was good this week with many buyers actively bidding on offerings. Market activity was mostly active as a result. Weigh up cows

sold on mostly light to moderate demand. Slaughter cows sold steady to 4.00 lower. Feeding cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter

bulls sold steady to 4.00 lower. Several buyers purchased feeding bulls this week. This helped improve bull prices on thinner, lower dressing

bulls under 2,000 lbs. Demand for re-breed type cattle was limited and most of these offerings sold as feeding cows again this week. Quality

was average.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
