Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however higher

undertones were noticed on a significantly higher quality offering. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Consignments were

offered in mostly small to moderate size packages. Buyers showed mostly moderate to good demand for light to moderate offerings. Demand

for light fleshed cattle suitable to run on grass was mostly good this week. Demand for heavy weight, feedlot ready cattle was better this

week as well with both cooperate packer feeders and farmer feeders both bidding aggressively over cattle in light to moderate flesh. CME

positions moved sideways again this week as they struggle to find direction. Boxed beef prices continue to fall as slaughter levels return to

normal levels and heavier weights have more product available than a year ago. As of Thursdays settlement the August feeder cattle contract

closed at 133.25, 0.275 higher than last Thursdays close. Market activity this week was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on

mostly good demand this week for moderate to heavy offerings. However, cow supplies have lightened some as branding season is almost

over. With a lightened summer sales schedule going forward all buyers were aggressive as they bid on offerings this week. Packers showed

mostly good demand for cows for immediate harvest as they bid against feeding buyers over offerings. Lean cows sold with the best demand

this week as packers look for lean product to blend down heavy supplies of fat trimmings from over finish cattle. Slaughter cows sold mostly

steady to 2.00 higher. Feeding cows sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold firm. Cow quality this week was average to very

attractive. Weigh up conditions were average to below average as warm weather had many cows very full this week. Young age cows suitable

to feed or re-breed sold unevenly steady. Quality was mixed this week from average to very attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
