Compared to last week: Feeder steers 750-799 lbs offered the best test this week selling mostly 3.00-5.00 higher. All other feeder steers were

too lightly tested either this week or last to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed on steers under 750

and higher undertones were noticed on steers over 800 lbs. Feeder heifers sold fully steady in a narrow comparison. Quality this week was

mixed from plain to attractive. Feeders were offered in small size packages or as load lots. Flesh conditions were mostly light to moderate.

Demand for light weight cattle remains good with many light weight cattle are being purchased for export. CME positions traded mixed this

week with Wednesday seeing a large triple digit loss. The May settlement hovered around the CME index price as it nears expiration. As of

Thursdays settlements May closed at 126.025, and August at 128.875 which is 2.225 higher and 2.175 lower respectfully from last Thursdays

close to this Thursdays close. Demand overall was moderate for light to moderate offerings. Market activity was mostly moderate this week.

Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand for slaughter cows and mostly moderate demand for feeding cows. Slaughter cows

sold steady to 3.00 lower on boning and lean cows. Breaking cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend as most of

these offerings sold to feeding buyers. Fleshy cows sold with lower to sharply lower undertones. Feeding cows sold fully steady this week as

packers showed good demand for high quality offerings suitable to feed to premium white. Cow and bull quality this week was mostly average

to very attractive. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to firm. Slaughter through Thursday was 397,000 head compared to 358,000 head last

week and 481,000 head last year. Young age cows suitable to feed or re-breed sold unevenly steady with good demand seen for high quality

re-breed type cows and light to moderate demand seen for feeding type cattle.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
