Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones

were noticed on grass-type, light fleshed cattle under 650 lbs. Feeder steers and heifers over 650 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an

accurate market trend, however steady to weak undertones were noticed. Quality this week was mixed from plain to very attractive. Demand

and offerings were light to moderate. The majority of feeder cattle receipts were from Miles city Livestock Commission as they held their

annual trail head replacement heifer show and sale. All other sales this week offered very light feeder offerings. CME positions continue a

very volatile trend as sharply lower and sharply higher days were seen this week. Feeder cattle futures finished the week lower than last week

as Thursdays settlements showed the March contract at 117.075, April at 114.125 and May at 113.025. Market activity this week was slow to

moderate. Weigh up cows sold on mostly very good demand for mostly moderate offerings. Packers provided much of the push to the market

as they showed very good demand for cows for immediate harvest. Breaking cows sold mostly 4.00-7.00 higher, while boning and lean cows

sold 6.00-9.00 higher. The push to restock retailers is on as packers pushed to own offerings to fill new and existing orders. Slaughter bulls

sold mostly 4.00-5.00 higher in a narrow comparison. Feeding cows were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend,

however higher undertones were noticed. Several very high quality sets of cows sold this week and both packers and feeding buyers showed

good demand for these offerings. Young age cows suitable to feed or re-breed sold mostly 4.00-6.00 higher. Quality this week was mostly

average to attractive and significantly higher than last week. A heavy offering of bred cows was seen this week. These offerings were met with

moderate to good demand. Quality was average to attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
