Compared to last week: Feeder steers 400-799 lbs sold sharply lower from 10.00-25.00 lower, steers over 800 lbs were too lightly tested to

develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Heifer calves 400-649 lbs sold mostly 6.00-12.00 lower all

heifers over 650 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. CME positions

were sharply lower 3 of the 4 trading days so far this week as most contracts traded down the limit all three days. Buyers showed strong

resistance by mid-week as CME contract prices showed no stability. Finical markets added to buyer woes as the Dow Jones industrial average

closed down 4,664 from Monday's open to Thursday's close. Market activity this week was slow to moderate. Weigh up cows started the

week on light to moderate demand, however demand improved to mostly moderate by weeks end. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to firm

on boning and lean cows, breaking cows sold unevenly steady as last week and this week saw large swings in prices. Feeding cow buyers were

mostly out of the market as packers absorbed the majority of the cow supply. Feeding cows were scarcely tested. Slaughter bulls sold

generally steady in a narrow comparison. Young age cows suitable to feed or re-breed sold 4.00-8.00 lower. Additional pressure from lower

CME live cattle prices continues to pressure feeding demand for these offerings. Quality this week was average to attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
