Compared to last week: Steer calves weighing less than 650 lbs sold mostly steady to firm, steers 700-799 lbs sold mostly 2.00 to 5.00 lower,

heavier weights of steers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Feeder

heifers 400-549 lbs sold unevenly steady from 4.00 lower to 2.00 higher, heifers 550-649 lbs sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower. All other weights of

heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Quality this week was average

to attractive. Most cattle on offer were in small to moderate size packages. Many sets of cattle were in light flesh and developed specifically

for grass. Despite another week of lower CME contract prices, grass cattle demand remains strong. Very few heavy backgrounded cattle were

on offer this week. Market activity was moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand and offerings. Packers

were aggressive in purchasing slaughter cows at the beginning of the week however by mid-week demand for cows diminished significantly.

The majority of cows purchased by packers this week were destined for immediate harvest. Slaughter cows sold steady to 5.00 lower on

breaking cows, boning cows sold mostly 2.00-3.00 lower, while lean cows sold steady to 1.00 lower. Packers showed significantly more

demand for lean cows compared to breaking cows this week. Feeding buyers were mostly out of the market this week. Feeding cows were

too lightly tested to develop a full market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Slaughter bulls sold steady to firm in a narrow

comparison. Young age cows suitable to feed or re-breed sold mostly 10.00-12.00 lower. Additional pressure from lower CME live cattle

prices continues to pressure feeding demand for these offerings.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
