Compared to last week: Yearling steers and heifers were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. A small offering of yearling cattle continue to be seen. These cattle are mixed for quality, however demand for high quality offerings remains mostly good despite offerings showing some age. Steer calves under 500 lbs were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Steer calves 500-649 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 lower. Heifers weighing less than 400 lbs and heavier than 650 lbs had no comparable sales. Heifers 400-649 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher. Quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive this week. Demand for feeders was mostly light to moderate. CME positions struggled most of the week starting every trading session this week in the red and posting losses from midweek on. Calves on offer were mostly weaned this week. Market activity was mostly moderate. Weigh up cows sold on good demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Packers were very active this week as they purchased both feeding and slaughter cows on moderate to good demand. Slaughter cows sold 3.00-6.00 higher on breaking and boning cows, lean cows sold mostly 7.00-10.00 higher. Feeding cows sold on moderate to good demand throughout the week. Packer and feeding buyers were both very aggressive early in the week however as feeding buyers filled orders cow prices weakened late in the week. Feeding cows sold mostly 3.00-6.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 3.00-5.00 higher in a narrow comparison. Young age cows suitable to re-breed sold mostly steady to sharply lower. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
