Compared to last week: The best test for yearling steers was for 900-949 lbs which sold mostly 3.00-5.00 higher. Yearling heifers 800-999 lbs sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher. All spring born calves were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Demand was mostly moderate to good for both yearlings and calves on light to moderate offerings. CME positions continue to improve giving buyers increased confidence as they bid on offerings. Yearling quality was mixed again this week from plain to attractive. Most offerings are coming straight off grass and are in light flesh. Limited offerings did spend a short stint in the feedlot before being marketed. No load lots of yearlings were seen this week. Packages sold on good demand as medium to large size packages made it easy for buyers to piece together loads. Market activity this week was mostly active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand throughout the week as packers searched for offerings for immediate harvest. Packers were aggressive as they pushed each other in search of offerings for immediate harvest. Despite limited to no feeding cow buyer participation cows sold steady to higher as packers attempted to gather as many cows as possible. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher on boning and lean cows, breaking cows sold firm in a narrow comparison. Weigh up conditions were mostly below average this week and significantly lower than last week. Cold, snowy weather had all cows pushing heavy amounts of fill. Feeding cows were too lightly test to trend as packers absorbed almost the entire cow offering for harvest. Slaughter bulls sold generally steady to weak. Yielding conditions were mostly below average which caused buyers to back off live prices slightly. Bulls sold steady to firm on a dressed basis. Cow and bull quality this week was average to attractive. Young cows suitable to re-breed sold on moderate demand this week. These offerings sold steady to firm.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
