Compared to last week: Yearling steers sold mostly 4.00-5.00 higher. Yearling heifers sold mostly 3.00-4.00 higher. Demand improved throughout the week. Overall demand was moderate to good on mostly light to moderate offerings. CME positions improved throughout the week and so did prices at auction as buyers gained confidence in the market. Yearling quality was mixed again this week from plain to attractive. Most offerings are coming straight off grass. Flesh conditions were mostly light this week. Several load lots were seen this week and these offerings were met with the best demand. Many packages were seen this week as well making it easy for buyers to piece together loads. Market activity this week was mostly active with many buyers in the seats actively bidding on offerings. Weigh up cows started the week on light to moderate demand, however demand improved to mostly good by the end of the week as packers pushed to buy cows for immediate harvest. Prices started the week steady to lower and improved to 5.00 higher by weeks end. As a result slaughter cows sold unevenly steady this week. Feeding cow buyers were mostly pushed out of the market this week as packers out bid them throughout the week. Cow quality was mostly plain this week with very few offerings suitable to feed. Feeding cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend. The best demand continues to be for fleshy cows that will finish quickly once on feed. Slaughter bulls saw demand improve much like cows as packers pushed to gather as many supplies as possible. Slaughter bulls sold unevenly steady. Young cows suitable to re-breed sold on moderate demand this week. These offerings continue to be to lightly tested to develop any market trend.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
