Compared to last report: This is the first full week of sales after the summer sale schedule. Due to light receipts last week no accurate market trend can be established, however higher undertones were noticed on both steers and heifer. CME positions improved throughout the week and so did prices at auction, improving 3.00-5.00 from the beginning to the end of the week. Yearling quality was mixed this week from plain to attractive, with most offerings coming straight off grass. Flesh conditions were mostly light, however limited offerings were in light to moderate flesh. Demand was mostly moderate, with moderate to good demand seen at times. Limited load lots were seen this week, however buyers were able to piece together loads as many packages of yearlings were on offer. Market activity this week was mostly active with many buyers in the seats actively bidding on offerings. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light demand this week. Packer buyers showed significantly lighter demand for slaughter cows this week. Heavier supplies have started to be marketed allowing packers to purchase cows lower. The cutter cow cutout however continues to show strong demand for cow meat and grinds. The cow cutout has stayed above $170.00 since the beginning of May. As of yesterdays close the cutter cow cutout was $175.79, up 0.18 from Wednesdays value. Feeding buyers showed good demand for fleshy cows this week as they search for cows that can finish quickly and hit the market during the holidays. Feeding buyers showed very light demand for thin fleshed cows buying them just over slaughter price. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 2.00-5.00 lower. Both bulls and cows dropped in price throughout the week. Young cows suitable to re-breed sold on mixed demand this week. These offerings were too lightly tested to develop any market trend.

Head, weight ranges, average weights and price ranges are exactly as USDA AMS filed them — nothing recomputed, nothing rounded — in USDA's own reporting structure. This is RaisedBeef's rendering of that data, not a copy of USDA's document.
Source: USDA AMS, as filed — nothing recomputed and nothing rounded. This summary aggregates the same sales the Montana barn reports cover, so it must never be added to a state total built from those barns.
