Compared to last week, feeders under 700 lbs. sold 30.00-50.00 lower, feeders over 700 lbs. sold 20.00-40.00 lower. The supply of feeders was moderate to light. This week was kind of the tell of two tales with many producers choosing to take the chance and hold off given the abrupt downturn in the markets, some others however, not willing or able to take the risk chose to sell, knowing even with the sharply lower markets prices were still historically very high. On average the value of feeders lost just on either side of 300.00 per head in the last ten days. A tough pill to swallow for producers when not a single thing has changed fundamentally. Some heavier jackets came out this week as damp and foggy mornings were a sure sign that the season changes are here. A few stick out sales this week, even if at lower price levels included: a package of 500 lb. steers at Tina Livestock Market which sold for 422.50. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold 32 head of 594 lb. steers at 415.00 and 21 head of 800 lb. steers for 355.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock Market sold 27 head of 602 lb. steers for 396.50. New Cambria Livestock Auction sold two loads late in the week that were quite impressive and almost ignoring much of what happened this week; a load of 759 lb. steers brought 385.00 and a load of 793 lb. steers at 366.00. On the heifer side F&T Livestock Market sold 32 head of 508 lb. heifers for 406.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock Market sold several drafts of reputation heifers this week, 81 head of 618 lb. heifers sold for 385.50; two loads of 720 lbs. heifers at 350.00 and 41 head of 823 lb. heifers sold for 328.00. Boxed beef cutout values closed slightly higher for the week. Choice closed on Friday at 378.13, up 2.37 and select closed at 358.65, up 0.68 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report came in just a under 47K head. Trade in the north kicked off early on Monday with the market downturn at much lower prices but also providing some basis for those hedged, trade in the south waited till later in the week and did not see quite the decrease as early week sales. Live sales were reported mostly at 230.00 with some late week up to 232.00, sales in the south were mostly 235.00-235.50. Dressed sales were mostly 358.00-360.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 3539 head with a weighted average weight of 547.98 lbs. and a price value of 378.91, 51.93 lower than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 26.82.
