Compared to last week, feeders sold 5.00 to 10.00 lower with instances of 10.00-20.00 lower especially later in the week. There were a few cases here and there in which a few drafts might have found steady to higher money if everything was right, but this was an exception this week. The feeder supply was moderate albeit slightly unusual. A larger than typical percent of the offering were steers this week but even more unusual was the percentage of feeders under 600 lbs. which was 52 percent. Of course, one week does not make a pattern and most little it was just an odd combination of events. After ignoring headlines and rumors for what seems like weeks now cash markets were no longer able to so. Feeder futures have seen three limit lower days in the last six trading days despite the fact that fundamentally nothing at all has changed at this point. Weather really began to act more fall like this week, temperatures got much cooler with a few reports of some light frost in the Ozarks. Foggy drizzle with a bit of a chill in the air as the story for most of the weekend. Although there have been no official reports of progress, grain harvest seems to be going at a good pace. There hasn't really been any weather that has shut things down for more than maybe a day or two here and there and famers were able to get right back at it. A few stick out sales this week included: 28 head of 506 lb. steers at South Central Regional Stockyards that sold for 490.00. Unionville Livestock Market sold 43 head of 571 lbs. steers for 469 and a load of 881 lb. steers for 367.10. Callaway Livestock Center sold 45 head of 633 lb. steers for 438.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 56 head of 835 lbs. steers for 370.00. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold a load of 757 lb. steers for 390.00. South Central Regional Stockyards sold a lot of 519 lb. heifers suitable for replacements at 438.00. Boxed beef cutout values closed higher for the week. Choice closed on Friday at 375.76, up 8.99 and select closed at 357.97, up 7.70 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report came in just a under 70K head. Trade was slow to develop, and prices lost a bit of ground this week. Live sales were reported mostly 238.00 and dressed sales were reported 370.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 4781 head with a weighted average weight of 544.14 lbs. and a price value of 430.84, 5.85 lower than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 41.65.
