Compared to last week, feeders sold 5.00 to 15.00 higher, with several instances of calves selling 20.00-25.00 higher on the more desirable consignments, which currently means shots are pretty much mandatory, as far as weaning goes buyers prefer all the weaning (45 days plus) but it can be none (right off the cow with milk still dripping from their lips) but absolutely not some (a few days to 2 weeks is a train wreck). The supply of feeders has been moderate but many grain farmers are still spending time in combines so there hasn't yet been any big runs at the barns here in MO. Some decent rains fell around much of the state over the weekend and although many jackets and flannel shirts came out there has been no frost thus far. From here on out every additional day is just a bonus for the pastures. Cash markets remain very strong with several new records set once again this week. Up until Friday the futures markets seemed unstoppable, Friday proved once again what goes up can go down at a much faster pace. Headlines which give any hint of negativity quickly gain a lot of attention and prove the markets are still extremely nervous at such high levels. A few stick out sales this week included: 22 head of 440 lb. steers at Callaway Livestock Center sold for 531.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock Market sold 24 head of 520 lb. steers for 519.50. Windsor Livestock Auction sold for 83 head of 679 lb. steers for 425.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 70 head of 726 lb. steers for 411.00 and 183 head of 820 lbs. steers for 393.50. Ozarks Regional Stockyards sold 61 head of 861 lb. steers for 379.00 a new state record for 850-900 lb. steers. On the heifer side of the market 20 head of 500 lb. heifers at Callaway Livestock Center sold for 425.00. Windsor Livestock Auction sold 162 head of 708 lb. heifers for 389.75. Boxed beef cutout values closed slightly higher for the week. Choice closed on Friday at 366.77, up 1.20 and select closed at 350.27, up 3.88 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report came in just a over 76K head. Trade was slow to develop this week, but once gates began swinging prices were significantly higher and volume was the largest seen in at least two months and maybe longer depending on how many head moved after the report cutoff time on Friday. Live sales were reported from 238.00-241.00 with most at 240.00. Dressed sales were reported 370.00-374.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 4158 head with a weighted average weight of 538.46 lbs. and a price value of 436.69, 12.66 higher than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 37.64.
