Compared to last week, feeders sold mostly 5.00-15.00 lower with the biggest decline on steer calves under 650 lbs. That isn't to say there wasn't some instances of higher spots, especially on some loads of yearlings but overall, the market was undoubtably lower. Fall temperature swings make it hard to keep even the best calves with all the proper vaccination and weaning programs and healthy weight on prices this time of year. This is an every year occurrence and buyers have to be realistic and factor in those risk regardless of overall tight supplies. Fall grain harvest is in full swing and even some fall hay being baled in a few areas despite dry conditions. A few stick out sales this week included 37 head of 487 lb. steers at Lolli Brothers Livestock Market which sold for 524.00. F&T Livestock Market sold 24 head of 565 lb. steers for 457.00. Mid Missouri Stockyards sold 33 head of 628 lb. steers for 434.50. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 39 head of 655 lb. steers for 429.00 and 156 head of 766 lb. steers for 389.00. Tina Livestock Market sold 156 head of 703 lb. steers at 413.25. Green City Livestock Market sold a load of 859 lb. steers for 359.00. Wheeler Livestock Auction sold 122 head of 900 lb. steers for 349.25. On the heifer side of the market F&T Livestock Market sold 22 head of 514 lb. heifers for 410.00. Lolli Brothers Livestock Market had 3 loads (222 head) of heifers averaging 659 lbs. that sold at 395.35. Green City Livestock Auction sold 188 head of 722 lb. heifers for 375.00. Boxed beef cutout values continued to search for bottom as levels continue to drop from extreme highs from summer spikes. Choice closed on Friday at 362.27, down 9.16 and select closed at 345.38, down 7.06 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report came in just a few over 38K head. There was basically nothing reported in the south. If any sales occurred, it was late Friday after the report cutoff time. Live sales in the north reported at 228.00 to mostly 235.00. Dressed sales 357.00 to mostly 360.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 4627 head with a weighted average weight of 541.90 lbs. and a price value of 417.42, 8.80 lower than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 35.21.
