Compared to last week, feeders sold mostly 5.00-10.00 higher. The supply of feeders this week was light to moderate, with near half of the total feeder volume sold at Joplin Regional Stockyards. Many of the northern auctions were on an off-schedule week so total number of auctions reported was also lower than usual. The big news of this week was rains that fell for many across the state. Although it will take more time and moisture to make a solid change to the drought map and not everyone even got rain, it was a relief to know it can rain. In areas that did get rain many were surprised how quickly a tint of green reappeared in pastures. There were several reports of Fall army worms on either side of the MO/KS boarder doing some pretty severe damage. A few stick out sales this week included 37 head of 509 lb. steers at Callaway Livestock Center which sold for 485.00. Tina Livestock Market sold 21 head of 615 lb. steers for 443.50 and 63 head of 856 lb. steers for 370.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 336 head of 772 lb. steers for 403.00 and 133 head of 911 lb. steers for 360.50. Callaway Livestock Center sold 48 head of 510 lb. heifers for 412.00. Tina Livestock Market sold 76 head of 661 lb. heifers for 387.00. Joplin Regional stockyards sold 33 head of 715 lb. heifers for 373.00. Boxed beef cutout values continued to see a seasonal decline. Choice closed on Friday at 371.43, down 10.62 and select closed at 352.44, down 7.48 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report totaled just under 53K head for the week. Live sales in the south continued to hold a premium to the north this week due to lack of supplies in the south and a slight back up of cattle in the north. Live sales in the south were reported mostly at 235.00-237.00 while northern sales were reported at 230.00-235.00. Dressed sales mostly at 365.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 3973 head with a weighted average weight of 545.96 lbs. and a price value of 426.22, 8.55 higher than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 41.71.
