Compared to last week, feeders sold mostly 5.00-10.00 lower, with Spots of 15.00 lower. Some short-weaned calves without any medical records and less than favorable condition are seeing some hefty discounts that will likely continue or perhaps even get larger until after a good frost, regardless of how tight supplies may be. The supply of feeders this week was light to moderate. Several farmers have gotten to shelling corn and attention has shifted for the time being although that could be slowed by rains that come over the weekend. Many areas did finally receive at least some rain over the last week which was very welcome. Producers especially those in the south need some fall grass growth as many have already started feeding in some fashion. The Monthly Cattle on Feed Report was published on Friday. No major surprises as numbers were all close to pre-report estimates and with in the ranges of expectations. On feed numbers were reported at 98.4 percent, Placements at 90.0 percent and Marketings at 86.3 percent of year ago numbers. A few stick out sales this week included 23 head of 553 lb. steers at Lolli Brothers Livestock Markets that sold for 460.00. Tina Livestock Market sold 24 head of 601 lb. steers for 446.00. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold 29 head of 672 lb. steers for 430.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold 36 head of 709 lbs. steers for 391.00 and 315 head of 888 lb. steers for 362.00. MO-Kan Livestock Market 134 head of 772 lb. steers for 380.00. On the heifer side of the market 25 head of 545 lb. heifers at Lolli Brothers Livestock Market brought 430.50. Windsor Livestock Auction sold 84 head of 639 lb. heifers for 400.00 and 160 head of 681 lb. heifers for 393.00. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold a load of 734 lb. heifers for 363.25. Boxed beef cutout values continued to see a seasonal decline. Choice closed on Friday at 382.80, down 17.99 and select closed at 359.92, down 18.52 compared to last week. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report totaled just over 44K head for the week. Trade trickled along all week. Live Sales in the south found a premium to the north this week due to lack of supplies and a slight back up of cattle in the north. Live sales in the south were reported mostly at 240.00 while northern sales were reported at 236.00-238.00. Dressed sales mostly at 370.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 3153 head with a weighted average weight of 544.10 lbs. and a price value of 417.67, 9.58 lower than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 40.19 per cwt.
