Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 10.00 higher, with some instances 20.00 higher. The supply of feeders was light as extreme heat continued to limit cattle movement. Demand was good to very good as buyers desperately want to fill some orders which has been difficult the last few weeks with the light runs. The market has been incredibly strong seemly adding dollars each day. Hard to find any big groups of lighter weight calves as most have been selling in small groups. Several loads of yearlings at various barns around the state. Nearly every barn seems to be setting some kind of barn records on some weights of cattle currently. Both the CME Feeder Index and the MO Stocker Formula once again set all-time record highs again this week. Some spotty rains occurred in the south but dryness across the southern half of the state continues to worsen. No one seems to be feeding yet but with out some rain in the next couple of weeks that couple become a possibility. The cooler weather in the forecast will be a welcomed relief. The Monthly Cattle on Feed Report was released on Friday. On feed numbers were at 98.4 per cent of last year, marketings were at 94.2 percent of last year, both nearly even with pre-report estimates. Placements were at 93.8 percent of last year which was just slightly under the top end of the pre-report estimates. Stick out sales this week included 42 head of 553 lb. steers at New Cambria Livestock Auction which sold for 467.50. and 16 head of 614 lb. steers for 445.00. Windsor Livestock Auction sold 70 head of 664 lb. steers for 420.75. Eastern Missouri Commission Company sold 59 head of 729 lb. steers for 380.50. Callaway Livestock Center sold a load of 817 lb. steers for 366.25. Unionville Livestock Market sold four loads of steers from 858-873 lbs. from 353.60-357.00 as well as a load of 934 lb. steers for 339.00. Joplin Regional Stockyards sold a load of 973 lb. steers for 327.00. New Cambria Livestock Auction sold 27 head of 523 lb. heifers for 448.50. Kingsville Livestock Auction sold a load of 328 lb. heifers

for 401.00 and a load of thin 744 lb. heifers for 369.00. Boxed beef cutout values were sharply higher for the week, choice closed on Friday at 407.91 up 7.34 and select closed at 383.66, up 12.90 compared to last Friday. Negotiated feedlot sales as of the 2:00 cutoff time on Friday afternoons report totaled just under 73K head for the week. Trade in the south was mostly 240.00 live. In the North lives sales were reported from 244.00-246.00 and dressed sales mostly from 385.00-392.00. The Missouri Stocker formula consists of 2088 head with a weighted average weight of 551.85 lbs. and a price value of 424.34, 8.55 higher than last week. The steer/heifer spread is 35.97 per cwt.
