USDA puts feeder cattle receipts at 49,268 head. slaughter cattle receipts at 5,015 head. replacement cattle receipts at 3,130 head. Counted as USDA files them — 359 of those are cow-calf pairs, each counted once.

Compared to last week, feeders sold steady to 5.00 higher. Several barns saw more gains locally as they were closed last week for the holidays and had to make up for two weeks of market gains. Steer calves also didn’t see all the extreme highs that were reached at some of last week’s special sales but overall the market continues to climb. The supply of feeders was heavy as typical for the weeks between the holidays. Thus far weather has not been of any concern for transportation as there has been very little moisture in any form over the last few weeks. It has actually been unseasonably warm and record highs were set in many areas of the state a few days late last week. Boxed beef cutouts fell a bit this week with choice closing on Friday at 274.36, down 5.65 and select at 258.64, down 3.64 compared to last week. Feedlot sales continue to climb with good volume of negotiated trade and chain speed on the slaughter side. Near 110K head were reported as of the Friday afternoon report. Live sales were mostly 138.00-142.00 and dressed sales mostly at 220.00 for the week. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 12,392 head with a weighted average weight of 553.50 lbs. and a price value of 171.14, 2.33 lower than last week.
