USDA puts feeder cattle receipts at 26,790 head. slaughter cattle receipts at 2,567 head. replacement cattle receipts at 1,575 head. Counted as USDA files them — 244 of those are cow-calf pairs, each counted once.

Compared to last week, yearling steers and heifers sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher and steer calves sold 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Although markets are undoubtedly stronger, it should be noted that much of the gain last week had to be contributed to supply and quality of the offerings. Near half of the sales in the state were closed or had very light offerings due to the holiday week. Several of the sales that swung gates this week had a very heavy supplies, holding pre-vac type of sales. Near 150 full load lots were sold around the state of high quality, cattle with all the desired paperwork and health programs to accompany them. Needless to say demand was very good as reflected by some of the prices. On weeks like this one could pick out load after load of impressive prices to quote but a couple that almost create sticker shock include a short load of 543 lbs. steers sold on Friday at Green City Livestock Market for $202.25. Several loads of 8-900 lb. steers sold in the mid to upper 160’s with one of the top being a load of 851 lb. steers on Tuesday at Unionville Livestock Market which climbed to 170.60 before the hammer dropped. Feedlot trade this week was stronger as well, short bought packers have been caught on the short end of the stick and feedlot managers have gained quite a bit of ground over the last month after being suck in the 120.00-125.00 range most of the summer. As of Friday afternoons report just over 108K head of negotiated sales were reported, with some of stronger prices reported Friday after everyone had slept off their turkey dinner. Live sales were reported from 138.00 to mostly 140.00 and dressed sales were mostly 217.00 with a few up to 220.00 late Friday. Boxed beef cutouts were slightly mixed for the week with Fridays close for choice at 280.01, up 1.60 and select 262.28, down 1.55 compared to the previous week. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 4009 head with a weighted average of 546.89 and a price value of 173.47, up an even 9.00 from last Monday.
