Compared to last week, feeder steers sold steady to 5.00 higher and heifers sold mostly steady. The supply of feeders was moderate to heavy as producers and buyers take advantage of the last few marketing opportunities of this calendar year. One full week of auctions left and then barns will start taking off one to two weeks for the holidays. A few full load lots of 8 weight cattle continue to bring in that upper 160’s to just breaking the 170.00 mark. A single consignment totaling 641 head with an average weight of 849 lbs. sold with one drop of the hammer this week at Joplin Regional Stockyards for an even 170.00. Weather swings continue to be quite unusual for this late in the year several record highs have been set in December with the possibility of more in the forecast. Sadly the unstable weather led to the break out of several tornados with on Friday night with one being of record size that stretched across several states. Boxed beef cutouts declined a bit more this week, choice closed on Friday at 264.54, down 9.82 and select closed at 252.24, down 6.40 from last Friday. Feedlot sales also lost a little ground, volume was very light for the week as packers know short slaughter weeks are coming up. As of the Friday afternoon report only 65K head was reported. Live sales were mostly at 138.00-140.00 and dressed sales reported at mostly 220.00. The Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 8797 head with a weighted average weight of 548.54 lbs. and a price value of 172.48, 1.34 higher than last week.
