Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher, with some instances of 5.00 to 8.00 higher. The supply was heavy as it seems the fall feeder run has gotten under way. Fall harvest is wrapping up thanks to great harvest weather. Despite high grain prices some farmer feeders are showing up looking for something to occupy time this winter. Along with late moisture, that seemed to be enough to sprout wheat and provide some grazing opportunities has added some buyers to the market providing a boost to demand. Buyers still want cattle weaned and with shots but maybe not quite as hard on those without as a month ago when risk was just too much to take on. Boxed beef cutouts climbed this week with choice closing Thursday at 226.50 up 12.18 and select at 208.24 up 9.75 compared to last Friday. Feedlot sales developed on Thursday at higher levels. Live sales were reported mostly 108.00-110.00, up 3.00-4.00 and dressed sales mostly 172.00 which was up 5.00-8.00 compared to last week. Confirmed week to date negotiated sales as of this report Friday morning total 77,874. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consist of 6,873 head with a weighted average weight of 552.21 lbs. and a price value of 149.29, 0.61 lower than last Friday.
