Very few comparisons available on this holiday week as many early week sales remained dark and most other sales had light receipts. That being said steer calves saw pressure selling steady to 5.00 lower and very limited test of yearling steers sold steady to 2.00 higher. Heifers were uneven from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher although some local barns did note some instances of much better heifer markets as the steer\heifer spread had gotten pretty wide and attempted to narrow up some. One main point that was consistent was concern about buying calves as daily temperature swings widen and the risk of ending up with sick calves’ increases. Of course this is a seasonal occurrence that rolls around every year it just seems to be starting earlier than normal this year. Regardless it has started and until frost and more consistent cooler tematures stabilize unweaned bawling calves without out a good vaccine program will see heavy discounts and little interest. Boxed beef cutouts continue to slide lower as of Thursday’s close choice was reported at 220.83, down 5.02 and select at 207.32, down 1.98 compared to last Friday. Feed lot sales were also lower as of Thursday afternoon negotiated sales for the week have totaled around 60k head possible more will develop before weekend but given the holiday week and talk of little interest from packers total sales could likely be less than seen the last few weeks. Live sales have been reported 1.00-3.00 lower at 100.00-101.00 and dressed sales 2.00-3.00 lower at 160.00-161.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 1760 head with a weighted average weight of 551.30 and a price value of 152.45, 3.86 lower than last Friday.
