Compared to last week, steers sold steady to 4.00 higher and heifers sold mostly steady to 2.00 higher. The supply of feeders was moderate to heavy. Several barns seen pretty large runs especially for the first week in August when heat and humidity typically prevent a lot of cattle movement. This past week has been nothing like a normal August however as cool temperatures had many looking for or thinking about jackets a few mornings. Along with the below normal temperatures the addition of recent moisture has provided a great boost to pastures and moods as some were very close to the possibility of having to start feeding a little. As of Thursday’s close boxed beef cut outs are higher for the week, choice closed at 204.66 up 1.40 and select at 192.01 up 2.12 compared to last Friday’s close. Feedlot sales early in the week were higher and climbed as the week went on making for some pretty wide spreads this week. Live sales were reported from 99.00-105.00 mostly 100.00-103.00 and dressed sales from 162.00-169.00 mostly around 163.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 5228 head with a weighted average weight of 552.74 lbs. and a price value of 157.47, 2.82 higher than last Friday.
