Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher, with some instances of up to 8.00 higher on mid-weight steers

mostly in the 650-750 lb. range. The supply of feeder was light to moderate and demand was moderate to good. Cooler temperatures and

moisture was welcomed and should give crops and pastures a nice boost as August arrives. Last Friday saw the release of two USDA reports,

the monthly cattle on feed report and the semi-annual inventory report. The Cattle on Feed showed 100 percent On Feed, 102 percent

Placements, 101 Marketed. The Cattle Inventory report showed total numbers slightly above year ago, with Beef cow numbers down one

percent and estimated calf crop down one percent. As of Thursday’s close boxed beef cutout values are mixed for the week, choice closed at

201.80 up .03 and select at 191.50 down .13.00 compared to last Friday’s close. Feedlot sales saw most of this week’s volume on Wednesday

live sales were reported steady to 3.00 higher from 97.00-102.00 and dressed sales 2.00 higher at 160.00. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula

consisted of 4359 head with a weighted average of 556.71 lbs. and a price value of 154.65, 1.61 higher than last Friday.
