to last week, steers steady to 3.00 higher, heifer steady to 1.00 higher. Demand was moderate to good on a moderate supply. Popup showers and thunderstorms were around this week, bringing a welcomed relief to some parts of the state. However, the humidity and heat settled back in shortly after the storms passed on. Farmers would still like to see a little more moisture. The drought monitor had some improvement this week, with a sixteen percent decrease in affected area, leaving about thirty-five percent of the state still affected by some level of drought. Boxed beef cutouts gained a little ground, closing on Thursday at 202.26 and 190.79, for Choice and Select respectively. That is a 1.79 increase on Choice cuts and a 0.48 increase on Select when compared to last Friday’s close. In feedlot sales, negotiated cash sales ranged from 96.00 to 101.00, with the bulk around 98.00, and dressed from 157.00 to 158.00, few up to 161.00. The monthly Cattle on Feed report will be released this afternoon. Some pre-report estimates show an increase in placements and marketings, but total on-feed is expected to be about steady. June’s livestock slaughter report was released on Thursday. Beef production was at 2.37 billion pounds, an increase of seven percent from a year ago. While cattle slaughter was only up two percent, live weight was up 52 pounds at 1365 lbs. and dressed weight was up 34 pounds at 830 lbs., compared to last year. June cattle livestock slaughter was higher than a year ago, but total cattle livestock slaughter from January to June was lower than 2019. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 4,253 head with a weighted average weight of 562.90 lbs. and a price value of 153.04, 1.65 higher than last Friday.
