Compared to last week, steers and heifers uneven with calves steady to 5.00 lower and yearlings and some weaned, pre-vac calves steady to 3.00 higher. However, a lot depended on what orders were in buyers’ hands. Demand and supply moderate. Farmers were given another window of opportunity to get some haying done late last week and early this week, with 34 percent of the state’s first cutting being completed as of Monday’s crop progress report. Boxed beef cuts closed on Thursday at 235.56 and 219.88 for Choice and Select, respectively. Compared to last Friday, Choice cuts are 25.92 lower and Select 26.54 lower. Packer margins have backed off the record highs of recent months, about back to levels seen mid-April, and that has trickled into the cash market. Live trades were reported from 102.00 to 108.00 and some dressed sales from 160.00 to 172.00. Slaughter numbers continue to improve, but there are plenty of market ready cattle. As of Thursday’s close, estimated slaughter was at 467,000 head for the week. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consists of 7,119 head with a weighted average weight of 542.72 lbs and a price value of 154.04, 2.02 lower than last Friday.
