Compared to last week feeder steers and heifers sold steady to mostly 5.00 higher. The supply of feeders was light this week as many early week sales were closed in observance of Memorial Day. Demand was good and several reporters noted good attendance with active bidding at barns this week. Although some states to the north are talking about being dry, that is sure not the case here in Missouri. Rains and flash flooding have been ongoing making fields a sloppy mess. Haying has been very difficult to impossible and many are itching to get something baled. Somehow farmers have managed to find a few windows to get most of the corn planted although a large majority of the bean crop has yet to be put in the ground, and with all the rain there likely will be at least some replanting of corn. As of Thursday’s close boxed beef cutouts have continued to decline but at a much slower pace than many expected. Choice closed at 369.56, down 27.18 and select 344.09, down 30.09 compared to last Friday. Feed lot volume as of late Thursday showed negotiated volume just over 94k for the week so far. Sales have had a wide range of prices once again this week. Live sales have been reported from 110.00-120.00, currently the weighted average is around 115.00. Dressed sales have been reported from 174.00-190.00 with the weighted average around 180.00. Slaughter volume continues to increase and get closer to more normal levels. Once again due to the holiday week total weekly volume will be lower this week, but daily numbers have reached the 110k mark now. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 3494 head with a weighted average weight of 535.82 lbs. and a price value of 157.87, 1.06 higher than last Friday.
