Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold steady to mostly 5.00 higher, with some earlier week sales as much as 10.00 higher. The feeder supply was moderate and demand was moderate to good. Cooler than normal temperatures and a late frost a couple of mornings this past week certainly no good for pastures which could really use some warm growing days. Attendance at local barns has picked back up as many people are starting to get back out. Boxed beef cutouts seem to have finally reached a top with the choice close reported on Tuesday at 475.39, the high for select was on Monday at 452.97. Prior to this record climb the last time the choice cutout closed lower was April 08, when the close was reported at 222.34. That is 24 straight trading days of higher posted values for a climb totaling 253.05. As of Thursday’s close choice was reported at 450.92 down 9.96 and select at 437.40 down 11.59 compared to last Friday. Negotiated feedlot volume for the week, as of this report has totaled 86,600 which is the largest volume seen since the week ending March 28th. Live sales have ranged from 105.00-117.00 and dressed sales 170.00-185.00 with at least a few sales reported every day of this week. Slaughter numbers are starting to slowly climb back closer to normal although there is a lot of catching up to do as there is somewhere just over a full normal weeks’ kill backed up at this point waiting to get through the system. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 6973 head with a weighted average weight of 530.27 lbs. and a price value of 157.23, 4.11 higher than last Friday. Supply included: 86% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 1% Dairy Steers, 40% Heifers, 3% Bulls); 11% Slaughter Cattle (2% Steers, 1% Dairy Steers, 1% Heifers, 87% Cows, 10% Bulls); 4% Replacement Cattle (23% Stock Cows, 53% Bred Cows, 2% Bred Heifers, 21% Cow-Calf Pairs, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 38%.
