Compared to last week, feeders traded uneven from 2.00 lower to 2.00 higher. The supply and demand of feeders were moderate. There has been plenty of moisture and pastures remain greened up and full. The latest Crop Progress report shows 66 percent of Missouri’s pastures rated in the good or excellent categories for condition. Futures are still trading at a discount to the cash market, however the front months on Live Cattle closed limit up on Wednesday and Thursday. There are plenty of market ready cattle available, but the decrease in processing capability have limited cattle movement. Some feedlot sales this week reported with live purchases from 95.00 to 110.00. Dressed sales were reported at 145.00 to 180.00. Boxed beef cutout values are still climbing upward, breaking records each day. Choice cuts closed on Thursday at 458.54, 81.09 higher than last Friday. Select cuts closed on Thursday at 448.57, a 91.44 increase from last Friday’s close. Compared to a month ago, Choice cuts were valued at 222.34 and Select cuts at 211.77, an increase of 236.20 and 236.80, respectively. Livestock slaughter picked up a little this week, although only slightly, with the week to date estimate for cattle at 323,000, as of Thursday’s close. Friday’s Missouri Stocker Formula consisted of 7114 head with a weighted average weight of 532.90 lbs and a price value of 153.11, 1.32 higher than last Friday. Supply included: 80% Feeder Cattle (56% Steers, 0% Dairy Steers, 39% Heifers, 5% Bulls); 9% Slaughter Cattle (2% Steers, 2% Heifers, 84% Cows, 12% Bulls); 11% Replacement Cattle (13% Stock Cows, 45% Bred Cows, 1% Bred Heifers, 35% Cow-Calf Pairs, 4% Heifer Pairs, 1% Bulls). Feeder cattle supply over 600 lbs was 41%.
